“With this work,” explains Alice, “I wanted to represent the potential energy of the Universe to which we can entrust our desires and dreams, to the extent that we can bring them to life.”
This is a polyptych (120 x 72 cm) comprising 20 small canvases, symbolising that change can be brought about through small things – even by dreaming on a small scale to create on a grand scale.
Painted with fluorescent and regular acrylic paints on a black background, the canvases feature small holes made with embroidery needles, intended as an invitation to re-establish a connection with the invisible presence within things and in existence.
‘Fragility’ forms part of the research project of the same name, through which the artist sought to explore the fragility of the human condition, a deeply felt aspect of her own life.
