Alice Voglino at the Cingoli Foundation for the second stage of the GAeM Prize

Alice Voglino is exhibiting at the Cingoli Foundation in Roseto degli Abruzzi (Teramo – Italy), the second stage of the 7th GAeM International Prize – Young Artists and Mosaic – organised as part of the 9th Ravenna Biennial of Contemporary Mosaic (Italy).

The work on display, a finalist in the ‘unconventional materials and techniques’ category, is entitled Credi in te (Believe in Yourself) and is part of the Fragilità (Fragility) series, through which the artist has explored the fragility of the human condition.

‘Believing in oneself,’ says Alice Voglino, ‘means loving oneself and embracing one’s own fragility, a condition I experience personally in my daily life. It means valuing oneself and maintaining the ability to move forward in life.’

The octagonal-shaped work, reminiscent of a baptismal font – a symbol of rebirth – is an assemblage composed of various antique napkins that have been sewn together, painted with acrylics and embroidered.

‘We are all,’ adds Voglino, ‘like mosaics made up of many different pieces – some intact, others crooked, others acquired over time – held together by the thread of life. At the centre of the piece, I have embroidered the words “Believe in yourself” using coloured embroidery threads, leaving room for the imperfection of my inexperience as part of the creative process.’
