research IN THE DARKNESS THE LIGHT, when uncertainty becomes an everyday occurrence, a year of research in a year of pandemic

IN THE DARKNESS THE LIGHT represents the research I conducted during the isolation imposed by the pandemic, a period characterised by widespread and constant uncertainty for the present and the future.

I relied on colour to process this difficult time, real and perceived, complex, disrupting everything and every aspect of life.

In my studio, which I was able to attend although in absolute solitude, I found an ally: the colour black, which evoked the situation so well.

Black is the absence of light, it causes us to feel lost.

In the dark we feel lost, unable to distinguish and recognise our surroundings, because everything can exist.

We need to stop, search, listen and recognise… find ourselves: then light also appears from the dark, which becomes movement and colour, so much colour that describes our vital energy and emotions that always belong to us, even in the dark, and which make us feel alive in every situation.

Starting with canvases that I painted in black, I left room to listen to myself and the feelings I experienced, and black turned into light, multicoloured, energetic and vital movement.

I thought of frameless paintings on canvas, to be displayed free on the wall to leave the movement of colour free to go beyond the canvas.
